BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING MINUTES • SEPTEMBER 16TH, 2019

The following is a summary of action taken at the September 16th, 2019, Scales Mound CUSD #211 School Board meeting. For more information please contact Ruth Foley or Dr. Bill Caron at 815-845-2215.

The Board of Education heard a presentation from Mrs. Pachia Tenpas-Rice regarding the high school transitional math program. This program is for high school seniors and focuses on math skills for life. Mrs. Rice explained that this semester the students are working on personal budgeting and are given different scenarios each week to work into their budget.

In other business, the Board approved the resignation of Mrs. Tara Peters as a paraprofessional and hired Ms. Alicia Montgomery and Ms. Lisa Dole as paraprofessionals. They approved a Memorandum of Understanding to be added to the teachers collective bargaining agreement regarding the health insurance start dates. This was to align the start date to the new cooperative insurance program the District adopted.  Additionally, the Board approved a Serious Safety Hazardous Findings report to be presented to the Illinois Department of Transportation. The request was for the crossings at Franklin Avenue, North Street and South Avenue where these streets intersect at the railroad crossing. If approved, it would allow the District to provide additional transportation services to students.

The Board discussed Project 2021. This project includes a renovation of some classrooms, the addition of a community daycare and fitness center, an agricultural building and additional physical education space. The current estimated cost of the concept plan is between $10.9 and $11.5 million.  The Project Design Committee is finalizing plans with the District Architect and plan to bring a final project design to the Board in October. There are initial plans to hold a community forum regarding the project in November.

The next regular Board of Education meeting for Scales Mound CUSD #211 will be held on October 21st, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. in the District library.
